Hey friends,

Publishing the freshest, most vital feminist literature for our time keeps our team at Feminist Press pretty busy. But we don’t stop there—we’re on a mission to transform how our industry works from the ground up.

The publishing profession is notoriously nondiverse: a 2015 study estimated that the industry is 79% white, 88% heterosexual, 99% cisgender, and 92% nondisabled. Plus, because of its heavy emphasis on professional connections, it can be difficult for newcomers to break into publishing—especially young people from marginalized communities.

Through our internship program, we’re chipping away at barriers to access in publishing, opening doors for aspiring feminist professionals of all backgrounds. This year, we trained fourteen interns on the ins and outs of feminist publishing, from acquisitions to copyediting to publicity and more. We’re thrilled to support them and all our intern alumni as they move forward to become the next generation of feminist leaders in this industry.

Alum Christine Tenny, who’s following up her Spring 2018 internship as a publisher support assistant at ITHAKA, says of her experience: “Within a span of four months, the FP internship gave me hands-on work experience and thoughtful professional development, but most importantly a network of supportive relationships to thrive in the real world.”

And Maya Lewis, another Spring 2018 intern alum currently working as assistant to the director at Aubin Pictures, calls the internship "such a wonderful experience. I learned so much about the publishing industry and the beautiful, thoughtful, badass ways that feminism can inform it for the better. I also made what I hope will be lifelong friendships and read some great books!"

With your help, we’ll continue to train and mentor the up-and-coming feminist leaders who will transform this industry.

Invest in the next generation of diverse feminist publishing professionals with an end-of-year gift of $100, $50, $25, or any amount of your choice!

Onward,
