Dear friends of FP,

In 1990 the Feminist Press turned twenty. For many people, the twenties are a decade of exploration, change, and self-discovery. The decade was no less meaningful to the Feminist Press, which published such books as No Sweetness Here by Ama Ata Aidoo and Among the White Moon Faces by Shirley Geok-lin Lim.

Some readers were well acquainted with the Feminist Press by the 1990s; and for others, the decade was an introduction to the new world that feminist literature made possible. Growing up in the 1990s, the daughter of a single mom and commercial airline pilot, Interim Executive Director and Publisher Lauren Rosemary Hook loved science fiction and fantasy stories centering girls and women. Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time was a childhood favorite, showcasing the beloved and brilliant time-traveling heroine Meg Murry as she saves the universe.

When Lauren later encountered the Feminist Press, she had already learned the importance of FP’s vision firsthand: how seeing oneself represented in stories can expand one’s idea of what is possible.

Today, three decades later, the Feminist Press remains as dedicated as ever to publishing feminist literature that changes readers’ lives. Donate now, and you’ll contribute toward the next generation of groundbreaking, innovative books published by the Feminist Press. You never know—one of them just might end up on the bookshelf of our future Executive Director!

In solidarity,

The Feminist Press team
