Feminist Press seeks new Executive Director

NEW YORK, NY— The Feminist Press at CUNY Board of Directors is excited to announce that the application period for our next Executive Director is now open. Candidates from the fundraising and nonprofit fields are encouraged to apply. All details can be found on the City University of New York website.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing the development programs of the Feminist Press. Experience securing foundation support and major gifts; organizing fundraising events and cultivating donor relationships; and building partnerships with key stakeholders is preferred. The Executive Director will collaborate with and support the staff as they work collectively to sustain, develop, and implement the Press's publishing program and set the vision for the next chapter of the Press’s history. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success as a creative thinker, spokesperson, and storyteller, and will have strong interpersonal and management skills.

“Today's political and social climate proves the continuing necessity of the Feminist Press,” said interim board chair Nancy Sheppard. “We’re looking for an innovative and committed leader to further our mission to publish diverse literary works that shine a light in the dark."

Founded in 1970, the Feminist Press is the world’s longest-running feminist book publisher. The Press began as a crucial publishing component of second wave feminism, led for decades by author and literary scholar Florence Howe (1929–2020). The Press publishes twelve to fifteen books a year and specializes in an array of genres including cutting-edge literary fiction, activist nonfiction, and literature in translation. FP seeks to champion intersectional and nuanced works that spark much-needed dialogue and move the feminist conversation forward. Through free public book events and programming including author trainings and a publishing apprenticeship, FP ensures that diverse audiences can access and participate in the future of feminist literature.
