Commemorating a Life in Motion

Dear friends of FP,

In September 2020 the Feminist Press lost our visionary founder, Florence Howe. Today, we celebrate what would have been Florence’s ninety-second birthday, the first since her passing.

“Growing older changes little,” Florence wrote in her memoir A Life in Motion. “As soon as I touch a birthday, I move on to the next.” Florence truly lived a life in motion—a lifetime of treasured relationships, joys and hardships, and countless storied accomplishments.

The beauty of a lasting institution like the Feminist Press is that it is able to outlive all of us, while preserving our important conversations, creations, and interventions in feminist thought for generations to come. Florence’s passion for feminist literature, and her vision for the future of publishing, lives on in the Feminist Press, and we remain dedicated to continuing the necessary work to which she devoted her life.

Will you make a donation today in honor of Florence’s mission? With your support, we will be able to uphold Florence’s legacy for years to come, building the future of feminism with powerful, boundary-breaking feminist literature.
