How to raise funds for feminist press on #GivingTuesday

From all of us here at Feminist Press, thank you so much for raising funds on our behalf on Giving Tuesday! Every dollar you raise through Facebook on Tuesday, November 28 will go directly to us. For this special day of giving, Facebook will waive all processing fees for nonprofit donations AND will match up to $2 million in donations made throughout the day—so it's the perfect day to donate and maximize your impact.

We are so grateful for your commitment to the cause of feminist publishing—and we'd love to send you a thank-you gift! If you're hosting a Facebook fundraiser for Feminist Press, let us know by emailing with your name and address and we'll mail you some Feminist Press swag—stickers, pencils, and a tote bag!

Here are step-by-step instructions for how to create your own fundraiser on Facebook to collect donations for Feminist Press.

Step 1: Click "Fundraisers."

Log in to Facebook and go to your home page. On the left menu of your news feed, under the heading "Explore," click on "Fundraisers."

If you're using a mobile device, you may have to scroll down and click on "See More" to find the "Fundraisers" option.

Step 2: Click "Raise Money."

On the left menu of your Fundraisers page, click the green button that says "Raise Money."

If you're using a mobile device, you'll need to first select "Manage" at the top of the screen, then scroll down and select "Raise Money."

Step 3: Select Feminist Press as your nonprofit.

Facebook will ask, "Who are you raising money for?" Select "Nonprofit," then search for "The Feminist Press at CUNY." Click on our name when it pops up.

Step 4: Fill in the basics.

Set a fundraising goal—make it as high or low as you wish. If you reach your goal on Giving Tuesday (yay!), you can increase it during the day.

Then set an end date for your fundraiser. Since this is a one-day fundraiser, you can set the end date for November 29—the day after Giving Tuesday.

Step 5: Tell your Feminist Press story!

Facebook will prompt you to give your fundraiser a title and a description. You can title your fundraiser whatever you wish—a basic title might be "Help Me Raise Funds for Feminist Press on Giving Tuesday," but feel free to get creative!

Use the description box as a chance to explain to your friends and family what Feminist Press means to you, and why our organization deserves their support. Did we publish a certain book that changed your life? Is there one of our authors you particularly admire? Did you have a blast at one of our events? Whatever it is, feel free to get personal and tell your own story! Don't forget to tag us @The Feminist Press at CUNY.

Step 6: Add a cover photo.

Make your fundraiser page pretty with a cover photo. You can use one of your own, but feel free to borrow ours, designed especially for our Giving Tuesday endeavors—just click the button below to download the image. Then click "Create"—you did it!

Step 7: Tell the world!

Make sure to spread the word among your friends, family, and social networks that you're participating in Giving Tuesday! Start posting on social media, sending out emails, and telling people in person at least a week in advance. Make sure to tell them to give on November 28 so they can take advantage of the opportunity for matching funds and waived processing fees. Use the hashtag #GivingTuesday to connect with other givers and promote the movement. Click below for some ideas of how to reach out!

Then, Tuesday, November 28 is your time to shine all over social media. Post early and often about your fundraiser. Consider going live on Facebook (click here for instructions) and posting a short video to your followers to ask them to donate—maybe even show off one of your favorite Feminist Press books!

Step 8: Congratulate yourself on a job well done.
