Kumiko Fujimura-Fanselow

Born in Japan, KUMIKO FUJIMURA-FANSELOW spent her formative years in the United States, witnessing the struggles of the civil rights movement and other social movements that followed in the 60s and 70s. She received her PhD in comparative sociology of education from Columbia University. She is currently professor of education and women's studies at Toyo Eiwa University in Japan, where she has taught since 1989 and served as chair of the graduate program in human sciences from 2005 to 2009. She is the author and editor of numerous essays and books written in both Japanese and English, including Japanese Women: New Feminist Perspectives on the Past, Present and Future.
