Florence Howe became involved with the women’s movement in the 1960s after participating in the civil rights and antiwar movements. She co-founded the Feminist Press in 1970. As a professor of English, first at Goucher College and then at SUNY’s College at Old Westbury, she was a leader in creating and nurturing the women's studies movement in North American universities. Howe tells the story of the tribulations and triumphs of women’s studies from the inside.
