Mary Gordon

MARY GORDON was born in 1949 in Far Rockaway, New York. Her father died when she was seven, and her mother, who suffered from polio, supported the two of them by working as a legal secretary. Gordon attended Barnard College as an undergraduate, and then got an M.F.A. at Syracuse University. She has published five novels and two highly-acclaimed memoirs. Gordon received the 2007 Story Prize for her collection, The Stories of Mary Gordon. She teaches English at Barnard, and lives in Manhattan with her husband.
