Marijane Meaker

In a remarkable career which includes 40 works of fiction and non-fiction, MARIJANE MEAKER has employed multiple pseudonyms. In her twenties, as an employee of the Gold Medal mass market paperback publisher, Meaker, under the name of Ann Aldrich, began writing her five non-fiction titles that openly chronicled the lives of lesbians throughout the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. Using the pen name Vim Paker, she wrote hardboiled mysteries and a novel on lesbians in a sorority, Spring Fire (1952), which outsold the then extremely popular Ersking Caldwell. Under the nom de plume M.E. Kerr, Meaker has written a number of young adult novels including Deliver Us from Evie. In 2003 she published under her own name the candid memoir Highsmith: a Romance of the 1950's.
