Helen Barolini

HELEN BAROLINI has been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts writing grant, and an American Book Award for The Dream Book: an Anthology of Italian American Women Writers. The Italian edition of her novel Umbertina was the recipient of a literary prize in Italy, the Premio Acerbi, in 2008. She is the author of twelve published books, two unpublished novels, and many short stories and essays that have appeared in literary journals, anthologies and several annual editions of Best American Essays. Her most recent books are a collection of memoir-essays, A Circular Journey, and Their Other Side: Six American Women and the Lure of Italy, biographical profiles. Helen Barolini was married to the late Italian author and journalist Antonio Barolini whose work she translated into English, and has three daughters; she lived in Italy for some years and her work has often centered on Italy and her own Italian American background. She now lives and works in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, PEN/American Center, and the Authors Guild.
