ANGELA Y. DAVIS has been advocating for social justice causes for over five decades. She has lectured throughout the United States and the world, and has had an illustrious teaching career at many universities, most recently at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she is now Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness and of Feminist Studies. She has spoken out for the rights of political prisoners, and for the abolition of imprisonment as the dominant strategy for addressing social problems. She is also the author of many books including The Meaning of Freedom, Women, Race and Class, and Are Prisons Obsolete?.
